The 12 Days of Ebooks with Marianne Arkins
Welcome to another day of .png)
I wanted to highlight Marianne's ebook ONE LOVE FOR LIV because it was the first ebook I read on my very first ereader. So I guess you say her book christened it.
But ebooks were new to me so I wasn't really sure what to expect. Well, as soon as I finished her book, I immediately emailed her (a total stranger then) and HAD to tell her how much I enjoyed it.
So please welcome Marianne and hear about her ereader experiences and her ebook ONE LOVE FOR LIV.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When I first started writing books for ePublishing, I had to read them on my computer. The backlighting hurt my eyes after a while, so I read very few eBooks – frustrating, since I wanted to support the business that was supporting me!
A few years ago, I had the chance to mess around with a Sony eReader. While I didn’t like that model for a number of reasons, I was completely sold on the idea of an eReader itself. I didn’t want a Kindle, so fretted and worried and frothed at the mouth. Then Barnes and Noble came out with the Nook. I read all the stats about it, checked out some tech review sites and then jumped on the Nook wagon with both feet and haven’t looked back.
The Nook was my Christmas gift to myself last year. Originally I thought I’d only use it for eBooks that I couldn’t get in print. After all, print was better, right? WRONG! I actually find it easier to read on the Nook. I read faster and with less eye strain than print books. Now, I get frustrated if the book I want isn’t available somewhere in eBook format – reading print is inconvenient.
Who knew?
So … have a friend or family member who loves to read and don’t know what to get them for Christmas? I highly recommend eReaders – especially the Nook, though I’m certain any of them will do. I know it’s my favorite present ever (even more than the diamond earrings my husband got me a few years back, but, shhhhh…. don’t say anything to him).
Wishing you everything you can dream of this Christmas season,
~Marianne
One Love for Liv
Blurb:
Liv is out to prove her high society fiancé is cheating on her. Can she do it without breaking a nail—or falling in love with Mike the mechanic?
Olivia "Liv" Leigh, wealthy socialite and spa owner, suspects her fiancé of cheating on her, so she takes drastic steps to discover whether appearances are deceiving. And if those steps require a bit of stalking, a change of appearance, a hippo-sized dog named Spike, and sacrificing her manicure to clean house for a sexy but sloppy man whose neighbor is determined to break several of the strangest Guinness Book of World Records, why should that be a problem?
Mike, a happily single auto mechanic, is more than content sharing his bachelor pad with piles of laundry, dirty dishes, and a sneaky ferret. But when a half-crazed woman in a bad wig shows up on his doorstep, what's a nice guy to do? Why, invite her in, unknowingly help her in her search for the truth and, in the process, fall head over heels for a woman who's never been less his type.
Reviews for Liv:
"One Love for Liv" is the kind of book that you never tire of reading and re-reading. This fast-paced and witty read actually made me laugh ‘til I cried in several parts. I can guarantee that I can’t even think about pizzas without my eyes misting over after I read the story. Ms. Arkins’ fresh and interesting writing style will attract fans of offbeat romantic romps. "One Love for Liv" can easily become your much needed break from life's harried pace. Ms. Arkins is definitely an author to look out for! – Bramble Nymph, Literary Nymphs reviews – Rated: 5 Nymphs
Marianne Arkins has done a super job of telling a story of love among the rich and not-so-rich. "One Love for Liv" is fun and fast-moving. It isn’t without its share of bumps for the lovers but it is very entertaining. The story of opposites attracting could be dull but with the quirky character traits these characters have, not to mention their unusual pets, it is anything but boring. … Ms. Arkins’ writing is clear and concise and makes for very easy reading. "One Love for Liv" is a satisfying read! I loved it! - Carly, Fallen Angels Reviews - 5 Angels
Thanks for stopping by!
What about you? Marianne loves her NOOK!
But if you had your choice of ereader right now, which would you choose?
Marianne thanks for being here today and sharing your love of the NOOK! I got my NOOK last month as an anniversary present from my husband and I am totally crazy over it. I have noticed I read more often and faster as well!
I desperately want an e-reader that doesn’t put use DRM on their machines. The advantage of it lowering eye strain is a big selling point for me though, and I am weakening.
Thank you for coming by and visiting with us today, Marianne! I read somewhere today that Amazon has sold more e-readers in the last 73 days than they did in all of 2009. I think the market has exploded and will only keep climbing now that they are making them more affordable.
I've been looking at the ereaders, and will probably choose Amazon's Kindle. One of the deciding factors for me is that I've heard Amazon has the largest inventory of books to choose from out of all the different readers.
Well, I have an old Sony reader and an Ipad. The old Sony is great to read off of but I have to physically download everything by USB cable with can be a pain. The IPad is fun but it's a little bulky and for the money it's not worth it unless you're going to use it for other things besides reading books.
I'm so hoping Santa comes through with an ereader on Christmas morning. Nook, Kindle, iPad…I don't think I care which. I'll love it.
Carol Kilgore(Quote) (Reply)
okay believe it or not but my 2y/o reads his picture books on his dads IPhone I really have no excuse but to get an eReader. I need access to books I will be missing out on otherwise
Joanna St. James(Quote) (Reply)
I am beginning to think a Nook is a good idea. Thanks for sharing! And I'll be back for reading ideas, no doubt. I really like what I see.
My mom is getting a Kindle for Christmas. I would love to have an ereader this year. I will have to wait and see if Santa puts it under my tree.
Currently I've been reading my ebooks on my Kindle for Mac.
I have an Astak EZReader Pro. It’s not as popular as the Kindle or Nook, but I like it. It reads like twenty different file formats (although it has an issue with .Lit books), and it has a text-to-speech option on all books.
Hi Marianne, thanks for sharing.
I've had my kindle for a couple of months, and I love it! I live in Spain, before I had to wait ages for books to be delivered, now I just press a button. Instant gratification!
My Christmas Present from my better half just arrived…
A Kindle 3, with WiFi and G3
I've been fighting with it a little bit today, but I like the fact that I can adjust the font to my liking (I think I'm going blind!)
Naturally the first book I loaded onto it was… Smitten lol
Even though I'm the writer in family, my husband was the one who first expressed an interest in an eReader. I may surprise him and get one for his birthday next year. And then I can use it too.
Karen Lange(Quote) (Reply)
Whoa. Never heard of a Astak EZReader Pro. Need to check that out.
Congrats on your new Kindle, Silke!!
Jennifer Shirk(Quote) (Reply)
I have a Nook, too, and I agree–reading print is inconvenient now! I've read 20 more books this year than last! But Joanne's right–Amazon has a lot more selection, BUT with the Nook, you can buy from different vendors. You have to sideload, but….
I had decided on the Kindle before they lowered the price. If we can find a way to get one…you betcha. I had already downloaded the PC version on my laptop so I have a library already established. I'm just excited e-readers are becoming more affordable. My phone app is KILLING my eyes!!
Too funny that you love your reader more than the earrings. (No worries your secret is safe with us.)
I would love ANY e-reader at this point, but it'll have to wait.
And congratulations on the fantastic reviews, I loved the blurb too, especially the description of Spike.
I'M LATE! I had it in my head that my day was tomorrow… I'm so sorry and feel about 1/2" tall. Going to read through the comments now.
My husband has learned that I prefer practical gifts since the diamond earring debacle. *G* Thanks for your kind words about the blurb!
Marianne Arkins(Quote) (Reply)
Debora, I really can't begin to really explain my love for my Nook .. I had no clue I'd feel so passionatley about it! Glad you're enjoying yours
Marianne Arkins(Quote) (Reply)
Chelle, I've heard similar stories — and I know I've seen the Nooks and Kindles everywhere I go now I was at a dog agility competition with only 12 competitors, and three of us had eReaders. Pretty amazing stats!
Marianne Arkins(Quote) (Reply)
Maria, I never could read eBooks on my computer … drove me crazy. It's amazing how fabulous having a eReader is on my eyeballs…
Marianne Arkins(Quote) (Reply)
Kindle does currently have the largest selection of eBooks — but I can buy books anywhere for my Nook and not have to convert the format to read it. Plus… Amazon's power scares me a little. I admit it.
Marianne Arkins(Quote) (Reply)
Jennifer, I thought about an iPad, but had reservations for the reason you mentioned. I also didn't buy the Sony for the reason you mentioned. Twins? *G*
Marianne Arkins(Quote) (Reply)
Carol, I think it should be mandatory that Santa fill his sack with eReaders. Hopefully he'll come through for you this year!
Marianne Arkins(Quote) (Reply)
Joanna, you should absolutely get an eReader! I have such love for mine …
Marianne Arkins(Quote) (Reply)
Darla, enjoy your eReader, whichever you get.
Marianne Arkins(Quote) (Reply)
Come ON Santa!!! And, Cindy, my mom has a Nook. She loves it!
Marianne Arkins(Quote) (Reply)
Angelina, I've heard of the Astak EZReader Pro — I'll have to look into them more. Thanks!
Marianne Arkins(Quote) (Reply)
Silke, enjoy your Kindle!!
Marianne Arkins(Quote) (Reply)
Karen, I have a friend who got a Nook, but reads on her iPod Touch instead — her husband uses the Nook.
Marianne Arkins(Quote) (Reply)
MJ, I read so much faster on my Nook — i've heard that from so many other people. I wonder why that is? And, yep, I love being able to get books from anywhere for the Nook.
Marianne Arkins(Quote) (Reply)
Chelle, you'll LOVE an eReader! I highly recommend going without anything, including food, to save up for one.
Marianne Arkins(Quote) (Reply)
I love my e-reader, especially my nook. I especially love when the ebooks are on sale and I can build my virtual bookshelf. Most importantly what I like best is that I can carry 5 books in my purse and not feel overloaded.
